I have always been against debt. My husband however, without me knowing it, has racked up a small fortune, "literally" in his small business. Now that I know about the debt it has left me feeling angry, ashamed, and without hope. I feel like I am trapped. What is a person to do when they don't have enough money to leave and feel betrayed. I just keeping hoping for the best and try to be positive, but it is getting harder to do. I am a goal oriented person and I feel so stuck.

What if you are 64 years old, with two grown daughters living at home, a mother in an assisted living facility who needs consistent attention, but who is 2 1/2 hours away, a house that needs work, monumental debts that you are paying down one by one, and two jobs that pay under $15 an hour? There is a pension which takes care of house bills and mortgage, and everything else goes to debt.

I read your article about debt and agree with all of it. I don't want to go into bankruptcy because I incurred the debt, spending many five dollar bills on silly things, and want to leave this world debt free because I made it happen, not because I had someone else negotiate it away for me. I'm just having a hard time being isolated and poor, but I am brave enough to keep going.

Usually the question I get is, "Why did you leave teaching?" I couldn't deal with the lack of sleep and daily lesson plans, with the demands my family members were making, nor could I be the kind of teacher I wanted to be where I was, even after 38 years of teaching.

I would like to get out of my rut, and I am aware that I'm not attacking this debt with enough positivity. Thanks for allowing me to comment.
